What is COMEDK Exam in India? Eligibility, Syllabus, Age Limit, Fees, Registration

Comedk stands for Consortium of medical, engineering & dental college of Karnataka. It is an autonomous institute that is responsible for conducting and managing comedk exams for taking admission of eligible students in engineering courses. For dental and medical courses, this institute considers NEET scores. The admission in architecture scores is done based on NATA scores.

The COMEDK exam is a state-level entrance examination that has 20,000 seats and more than 190 engineering colleges participates in it. This exam is organized in 300 centers of India.

What is the COMEDK Exam?

COMEDK exam as mentioned is a state-level exam organized by the Consortium of medical, engineering & dental college of Karnataka. It is an entry point for admissions in architecture and engineering courses offered by 120 institutes or college that accepts scores of COMEDK. If the candidate qualifies in this exam, they are eligible for admission in more than 20,000 B. Arch and B.Tech seats. Every year more than 60,000 students appear for this COMEDK exam.

COMEDK Exam

One must keep in mind, the student who wants to get admission in the B.Arch courses through the COMEDK exam needs to first give the National aptitude test in architecture (NATA) and then they can join the COMEDK counseling for seat allocation. This COMEDK exam is an undergraduate entrance test that is conducted once a year.

It is an online exam that is of 3 hours duration.

Eligibility criteria of COMEDK exam

  • If you are an Indian resident, then you are eligible to give this COMEDK exam, irrespective of any state or region.
  • The candidate must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or a university.
  • A general category candidate must have scored 45% marks in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and an OBC, SC, ST candidate should have scored 40% marks in the above-mentioned subjects. Make sure English should be your compulsory subject.
  • The applicant must have passed all the subjects.
  • Apart from English, physics, and mathematics is also a compulsory subject. In an optional subject, one can have biology, computer science, biotechnology, chemistry, or electronics.

Important: The diploma applicants cannot give this COMEDK exam, as there is no such provision for diploma entry students.

Qualifications for Bachelor in architecture courses

  • The candidate must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or a university.
  • Mathematics should be his/her compulsory subject apart from other subjects. They must have done a 10+3 diploma as well. A general category student must have received 50% marks and for OBC, ST and SC, it is kept to 45%.
  • The admission in the bachelor architecture course is done based on NATA score only. The student has to give the aptitude test for admission in Bachelor in architecture courses.

Important: the student is required to get a separate application form online for Bachelor in architecture course counseling. The college will not conduct any entrance test for admission in B.Arch. course.

Exam pattern of COMEDK exam

The COMEDK exam being an entrance test is organized only for the engineering course, since when the government has made NEET a compulsory examination for dental and medical courses in India. The pattern of this exam is described below:

  • The mode of the COMEDK exam is online
  • The duration offered to the candidate is 180 minutes

The exam takes place in two sessions. The morning session starts at 9 am and ends at 12 noon. The afternoon session begins at 2 PM and ends at 5 in the evening. There are a total of 180 multiple choice questions in the COMEDK exam which includes 60 questions for physics, 60 for mathematics, and 60 for chemistry. For every correct answer, the candidate is given 1 mark each. There is no negative marking in this exam. One can give the exam in the English language only. This paper is not set in any other language apart from English.

Important: If in case there is a tie between the candidates, the authority can consider the less number of negative answers and can adopt other strategies for breaking the number tie.

The application process of COMEDK exam

The students who are interested to give the COMEDK state-level examination can fill an application form online. Before completing your exam registration process, make sure you read all the instructions carefully. The candidate should not skip any of the details asked in the COMEDK registration form. It is compulsory to enter all the information. Make sure you use the same e-mail ID and phone number throughout your admission process.

Steps to fill COMEDK application form 

Register

  • The first step is to register by filling the application form. One can register himself at the official website of COMEDK which is comedk.org. Enter your details like name, email ID, phone number, DOB, etc. Don’t forget to cross-check your details before submitting your details. Once your details are submitted, you will not be allowed to change or alter your details.
  • Soon after this a user ID and password will be sent to your email for completing the further process.
  • Get the login credentials from your email and enter the remaining information like educational details, communication, and personal details.
  • After this, you will have to upload the scanned copy of the passport size photograph, guardian’s signature, your signature, and ID proof. Make sure you upload the documents under the given dimension and size only.
  • You will be asked to select your exam center. You will be given three options for selecting your preference.
  • Make the payment of COMEDK exam fees online. Keep in mind, these exam fees are non-refundable.
  • Have a quick look at the exam application form, and then finally submit it.

Note: The photograph should be of a passport size in JPG or JPEG format. It should be less than 80 KB. The signature and ID proof should also be in JPG or JPEG format. It should be less than 80 KB. Set it dimension to 35 x 80 mm.

COMEDK Exam fees

The updated application fees of the COMEDK exam for COMEDK UGET is 1800 INR + convenience fees, and for COMEDK UGET and UNIGAUGE, its 2800 IINR + convenience fees.

How the scores of the COMEDK exam are calculated?

Every year the minimum score is set by the exam authorities. This minimum score is termed the cutoff mark. The students who score above these marks are only listed in the merit list. Usually, the cut-off marks for a general category student are 50%, for a general OPH it is 45% and for OBC, ST and SC is 40%.
